| Beware!
The natives are restless, jungle drums are now beating and
the torches have been lit. Who could've thought that by taking
a quick left from Main Street U.S.A. would take you deep into
the jungle and the heart of adventure. Dangerous temple ruins,
wild animals, and head hunters all await those without a careful
step. So have a good time Adventurer but "watch out for
anything that slithers." ~ Indiana Jones
Adventureland
has lots of vegetation which is mostly on the Rivers of Adventure,
which really adds to the atmosphere. A few times during the
day a band will play above the bazaar which always stops visitors
in their tracks. At night the torches surrounding the area
are lit creating dancing, spirited shadows on the storefront
walls and native masks. This land may not seem to be very
big, but it houses some of the more popular attractions in
the park, so it can get pretty crowded. With the Jungle Cruise
and especially Indiana Jones, maneuvering can be difficult.
Be sure to take this adventure with your loved ones firmly
in hand.

Enchanted
Tiki Room:
![[Tiki Room "E" Coupon]](advent/images/Tiki%20Room%20E%20Ticketa.jpg) Welcome
to our tropical hideaway. Shortly after we enter and
have a seat in the Tiki Room, we are welcomed by our
host Jose the parrot. He is soon joined by his friends
Pierre, Fritz, and Michael who are all here to show
us the wonders of this enchanted room. In the show
we experience singing birds, the amazing blooming
of tropical flowers, thunderstorms and the enchantment
of the Tiki Gods. Let's not forget the beautiful fountain
in the center of the room. It's a Disneyland classic
full of song and heart. The Tiki Room is one of those
attractions that is special to many people. I would
venture a guess that most of the daily visitors are
repeat audience members. They have fond memories of
the show and they want to relive a younger time. Such
is the Magic of Disneyland.
The
Tiki Room has been around for a while and has an interesting
history. Walt Disney originally intended the Enchanted
Tiki Room to be a restaurant. As you may have noticed,
that is not how the Tiki Room turned out. Instead,
we now have a staggering 225 audio animatronic elements
all here for your complete enjoyment. The wait is
never very long and shows start every 20 minutes.
It's a piece of Disneyland history and I recommend
seeing it at least once.

Indiana
Jones
Adventure - Temple
of the Forbidden
Eye:
| It
lies hidden deep in the jungles of Adventureland lying
dormant with the ability to make its visitors wealthy
beyond imagination, eternally young and all seeing into
the future. But this power is not to be taken lightly.
This temple has been in slumber for centuries just waiting
to be found. And who discovers this temple? None other
than Indiana Jones, highly renowned archeologist and
seeker of rare antiquities.
This
ancient structure sits right on the edge of the Adventureland
river. As you enter the archeological camp, there is
a run down generator inconsistently fueling the overhead
lanterns illuminating the excavation. Out in front of
the temple are giant columns topped with snakes making
visitors wonder what's inside and if safe to explore.
Once in the bowels of the temple, join Salah and hop
in an off-roading vehicle built for 16, and take a trip
to see your awaiting destiny. However, you must be warned.
Do not look into the forbidden eye or your path will
lead to certain doom! Alas, I suppose it is human nature
to want to look. Before you know if you are threatened
by skeletons, bugs, darts, fire, rolling boulders and
let's not forget Indy's favorite: snakes. If only you
kept your eyes closed. Maybe next time.
![[The Temple]](advent/images/Templea.jpg)
Although
Indiana Jones opened in 1995, it has yet to seem dated
or unenjoyable and it is one of the best rides I have
ever been on. The music and the effects are all top
notch and offer plenty to keep you coming back for more.
There's incredible detail everywhere, even in just the
queue itself. For example, as you walk through the temple
towards the loading area, you will probably notice several
glyphs painted on the walls. Cast Members used to distribute
decoder cards so that you could decipher the phrases,
but I haven't seen them passed around in a while. And
be sure to pay attention to the help Salah offers in
his presentation. It could save your life...
![[Indiana Queue]](advent/images/IndyQa.jpg) I
remember seeing plans and models for this attraction
years before it came about. I believe Imagineering spent
about 3 years perfecting the programming and motion
of the vehicles. While you are riding you forget that
the four wheels you are riding on never leave the ground.
The entire motion is controlled by the upper portion
of the vehicle. There are so many other things that
got my, "How did they do that?" mind working
after a few times around. That is something I appreciate
about the attraction, and I hope there are others out
there that feel that way too. So I won't reveal too
many secrets but here's something to think about...
The vehicles are unable to back up (think about the
room with the rolling boulder) and in the beginning,
there is only one room to enter despite the fact that
it appears you have three choices.
The
Temple of the Forbidden Eye is also another attraction
that has a single rider line. There is always a greeting
cast member waiting at the the entrance to the queue
(where the themed queue starts - not the queue that
can spill out deep into Adventureland) ready to help
you out. Just say that you're a single rider and you'll
be given a small pass. Take the pass through the exit
and to the loading / unloading zone and you can bypass
almost the entire line and believe me... the line can
get very long... hours and hours long. Long... That's
very long for those who haven't been paying attention.
As
one of the best thrills in the park, I guarantee that
you will not exit the Temple of the Forbidden Eye disappointed.
You will probably want to experience it more than once
in your day. So take advantage of the FastPass system
or the single rider line, but don't miss out on the
adventure of a lifetime.

Jungle
Cruise:
There
is only one rainforest here at Disneyland and it lines
the Rivers of Adventure. The best way to explore this
rainforest is here at the Jungle Cruise. One can't help
but to think of the movie the African Queen
with Humphrey Bogart when you see this attraction. It's
the combination of the period theme and the design of
your cruise ships that effectively places you back in
the earlier 1900s. So now that we are back in time,
what would a cruise be without a Cruise Skipper? Armed
with a microphone and the cruise wheel they take us
on a journey through this lush forest. We experience
giant African elephants, hippos, lions, gorillas, roaring
rapids, snakes, headhunters and worst of all, the deadly
Switzer waterfall. Enjoy a great ride and plenty of
laughs as you sit in your canvas awning cruise boat
and take a ride down the Rivers of Adventure.
I
have often wanted to be a Jungle Cruise Skipper. I get
that feeling after every time I ride. What a great job.
I would have so much fun with it. By the way, do any
of you remember the gun? Skippers used to have a revolver
they kept with them and used on a few occasions. Why?
Well, hippos are deadly when they wiggle their ears
and blow bubbles. I'll leave it at that. But alas, the
gun is no more. It reflects another change in the times
and the world is a little different than it used to
be. I guess Disney decided not to have guns in attractions
and to especially not fire them at animals. But don't
the Seven Dwarfs use a few semi-autos to take out the
Wicked Queen at the finale to Snow White's Scary Adventure?
Maybe I'm just confusing that with something else.
Walt
Disney originally wanted real animals instead of audio
animatronic animals but one could imagine what a logistical
nightmare that would be. The necessity for a controlled
environment would seriously detract from the experience.
Perhaps it's just that I can't imagine the Jungle Cruise
to be anything different from what it is now. Still,
through the years there have been some occasional changes
such as new scenes being added here and there. I know
the river channel was altered for Indiana Jones but
that's the only recent thing I can think of and that
was back in 1995. Disney also changed the main entrance
and turned the structure into a 2 story queue about
the same time I believe.
The
trip through the rainforest is rather straightforward
and it's fun to see all the different scenes but the
highlight is definitely our Cruise Skippers. It's great
fun and makes the Jungle Cruise the great attraction
it is today. Like all things in Disneyland, just let
yourself fall into the adventure. And fear not timid
travelers. It may look troublesome around a few corners
but at no time are we are in any kind of danger. Perhaps
I spoke too soon. I don't like the look in that tiger's
eye. It's a good thing we are at least 20 feet away
and it's a good thing those tigers can only jump 30...
see... they'll jump right over the boat.

Tarzan's
Treehouse:
![[Tarzan's Treehouse]](advent/images/Tarzana.jpg) As
you begin to leave Adventureland and walk towards New
Orleans Square, you will run into a tree that is stationed
right in the middle of the walkway. You may ask yourself,
"Who put this tree here?" I would say that
you deserve an answer. Disney Imagineering put the tree
there. You see, not too long ago, Disney had a visitor.
It all started when Tarzan of the Apes heard great stories
of Disney and their creative endeavors. Tarzan decided
to make a small journey to the Untied States to tell
them his life story in the hopes that they would feel
his adventures would make an entertaining movie good
for the entire family. Disney loved his story and did
indeed make an entertaining movie good for the entire
family. Tarzan loved the movie so much that he asked
Disney if they would relocated his home in the jungle
to Disneyland so he could be around the millions of
Disneyland visitors. Walt Disney Imagineering did just
that and in June of 1999, Tarzan's Treehouse became
open to the public.
I'm
sure that most of you remember the Swiss Family Treehouse.
I believe that attendance at that old attraction was
not what Disney was wanting and the decision was made
to bring in Tarzan. The new treehouse is quite similar.
The main difference is that the entrance is actually
away from the main tree and at a smaller tree out in
the Adventureland walkway as I mentioned earlier. The
two trees are connected by a rope bridge and once crossed,
you can soon be taking a look at different scenes and
multimedia elements from the movie. I've never seen
much of a wait over a minute.

Adventureland
Bazaar:
How
bizarre. I mean... How bazaar. The largest place to
shop in Adventureland is here at the Adventureland
Bazaar. It it the first store that you see when you
enter Adventureland from the Hub and has a decent
variety of merchandise. Outfit yourself for adventure
with a selection hats, Hawaiian shirts, and rain sticks.
You know what rain sticks are right? What bazaar would
be complete without plastic dinosaurs, Lilo and Stich
merchandise, Aladdin characters, and plush Mickeys
in jungle garb. Don't forget the current wave of Finding
Nemo stuff too. There is also necklace and bracelet
making near the back the of the store where you have
a variety of jungle themed symbols and letters in
which to construct something elegant. The Adventureland
Bazaar also has its very own Magic Lamp. If you want
to know what the future holds, put in some change
and see what happens. |
Indiana
Jones
Adventure Outpost:
The
Indiana Jones Adventure Outpost is a great place to
stop by if you have just gone on the Indiana Jones
Adventure. Why? Because just about everyone wants
to be Indiana Jones after that experience and this
is the perfect place to go for that. There is a wide
selection of fedoras and leather jackets to look just
like Indiana. There are also Raiders of the Lost Ark,
Temple of Doom, and Last Crusade shirts, and some
other items of Indiana interest. And make the experience
complete with a round of Indiana Jones pinball. I
love pinball, but I'm never very good at it. That
doesn't mean I don't play a round or two when I'm
in the area. |
South
Sea
Traders:
Welcome
to South Sea Traders my friends. We are located right
next to the Adventureland Bazaar and we have a fantastic
supply of merchandise for your every need. Need a
shirt? We've got shirts. Need a hat? We've got hats
too. Are your eyes blistering from the burning sun?
We've got sunglasses. We've got brand names for you
at full retail cost. We feature Quicksilver and No
Fear brand clothing. So please stop on by. Once again
we're located right next to the Adventureland Bazaar.
You can't miss us. |
Tropical
Imports:
Snakes...
Alligators... Monkeys... If you are in need of any of
these, then this is a perfect stop for you. Are they
real? Yes. They are real fakes... real rubber fakes.
Tropical Imports is located right between the Jungle
Cruise entrance and exit, so feel free to shop on your
way or your way back. This small shop has a variety
of jungle items such as the mentioned rubber snakes,
alligators, and stuffed monkeys. There are also bamboo
chimes, candy, pens, souvenir books, tropical necklaces,
sunglasses, other rubber creatures and even some dinosaurs.
When I was much younger, I remember seeing these small
baskets of shells available which I always thought were
pretty cool, but I don't see those anymore. But stop
by if you are in the mood for some tropical imported
merchandise. |

Bengal
Barbecue:
Don't
panic... Don't fear... There is no barbecuing of Bengals
here. Or is there? The Bengal Barbecue does have some
great items to eat that you can't find in any other
place in the park. There are some generic items such
as coffee drinks but forget about those. The highlight
of this place is the barbecue skewers. Slices of marinated
meat is stuck on wood skewers and then grilled to perfection.
Kabobs of beef, chicken and vegetables are available.
Perhaps you like them mild, or perhaps you like them
spicy. I go for the spicy and I must insist that you
do too. But I suppose that it is up to you. Unfortunately
it's a little expensive for how much food you actually
get, but if you are in the area and want something a
little different I highly recommend it. |
Indy
Fruit
Cart:
Oh
weary Adventurer... Is your energy low? Are you in need
of a refreshing, natural treat? If you are then it is
a good thing that Indiana Jones has set up a fruit cart
in Adventureland for you. Here you can get a number
of different fruit items as well as water, juice and
a few other choices of beverage. You can also purchase
some other interesting snack items such as chips and
caramel apples. The prices may be a little high, but
think about where you are. How often do you find chips
or see apples growing in the jungle? See? If it wasn't
for this fruit cart you could be in trouble. |
Tiki
Juice
Bar:
As
soon as you enter Adventureland from Main Street U.S.A.
you immediately get into the spirit of the jungle with
the Enchanted Tiki Room and... Tiki Juice Bar? The entrance
to the Tiki Room is to the immediate left of the Adventureland
entrance and the Tiki Juice Bar is to the immediate
right of the Tiki Room entrance. Well now that we have
established where the Tiki Juice Bar is located perhaps
we should talk about juice. It's good juice. It's yummy
juice. It's pineapple juice. It's Dole's pineapple juice.
And take another look. It's not just juice. There is
frozen pineapple juice too. So while you wait for the
next showing in the Enchanted Tiki Room, why not refresh
yourself with a cup of tropical goodness?

Some visitors may enjoy this site and the presentation. But
I also have no doubt that many will react with complete and

visions presented before them. Or perhaps I'm simply missing
something that you feel should be here. Let me know what you
